On a steep hill, high above this charming university city, the mighty Marienberg Fortress dominates the landscape, offering you a chance to explore bygone eras going back to the dark ages. Learn about the prince-bishops, men with both spiritual and worldly power, who erected this massive complex in the 13th century before abandoning it for the much grander “Residenz” downtown 500 years later.
For photographers, St. Mary’s Fortress offers a unique and breathtaking perspective
The Würzburg “Residenz” is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and, quite rightly, called the “Palace of all Palaces”. Gaze in wonder at the huge ceiling fresco above the Grand Staircase by the renowned Italian painter Tiepolo and be fascinated by the stories of the other artists who made possible this unique and unbelievable landmark of Würzburg.
Stroll through the beautiful court gardens of the “Residenz “ and then do some “shopping retail therapy” in the Old Town. Whatever you need or love – it’s there for you in one of the many shops of this historical, beautiful town.
We have one secret more: mingle with the locals on the Market Square, have a glass of the excellent regional wines and enjoy Franconian fun and hospitality.
